=Vote is an initiative of The Voter Network to mobilize LGBTQ+ voters in Kansas!
As we approach the pivotal election in November of 2020, increasing voter turnout is a powerful way to make a difference at the federal, state, and local level. Together, we can amplify underrepresented voices and create stronger communities through our innovative Voter to Voter program. Communities that have routinely been undermined in the political process vote at lower rates than others (including LGBTQ+ individuals, youth, People of Color, and single women). Our voices are not being heard, and policies can reflect that.
In order to bring more folks to the table, we use relational organizing! We support our teams of volunteers in connecting with voters they already know: friends, family, co-workers, or people in their community. No call lists, no knocking on strangers’ doors, just turning your friends into a movement! The program provides an easy-to-use online tool that allows you to find people in your circle that are infrequent voters and offer them resources and nonpartisan information (that we provide) throughout the voting process. In 2018, we turned out 82% of our voters in Kansas. In 2019, we doubled local election turnout among our voters. We estimate that our volunteers have this impressive level of impact with only a couple hours of effort over the election season.
There are many easy opportunities for you and/or your organization to participate in the =Vote initiative. You can start your own team or you can be an ambassador for our =Vote team. We want to share our resources and work alongside you as we amplify the voices of our LGBTQ+ community.
